AQA Unit 1B The Legal System

Unit 1B comprises four main areas: The civil courts and other forms of dispute resolution is concerned with an outline of the civil court structure and a description and evaluation of ways in which civil disputes are resolved without going to court; The criminal courts and lay people is concerned with an outline of the criminal court structure and a description and evaluation of the role and work of lay magistrates and of jurors; The legal profession and other forms of advice and funding investigates the legal profession, including solicitors, barristers and legal executives. It goes on to describe and evaluate the funding of legal services today; The judiciary looks at the different types of judge that exist and considers the concept of their independence from different aspects of the State.
